Supported laser scanner sensors (LiDARs):

Quanergy M8 prime sensors

The RESEPI® can be equipped with the high-resolution and advanced laser scanners of Quanergy Systems Inc.

M8-Prime sensors provide industry-leading pinpoint accuracy of 0.033-0.132° and capture 1.3M points per second with three returns. They provide the most accurate representation of the 3D world by generating a high-accuracy, high-resolution and extremely dense point cloud of scanned areas and objects. Therefore they allow UAVs to operate at their maximum altitude, accurate raw material volumetric assessment for mining, and fast geometric readout for high throughput inspection.

M8’s high data density 3D mapping technology is designed to help mapping integrators and operators improve their productivity and generate faster revenue by increasing the mapping accuracy and speed across a variety of applications including urban planning, maintenance of critical infrastructure, land surveying, power line inspection, archeological excavation, and more.

We recommend the RESEPI with the following mid-to-long range 3D Quanergy models:

M8-Prime Plus with detection range: 150 m

M8-Prime Ultra with detection range: 200 m

Velodyne sensors

The RESEPI® can be equipped with the  laser scanners of Velodyne Lidar.

Velodyne’s Puck lidar sensors are reliable and power efficient.

Field of View: 360° horizontal and 40° vertical

Vertical resolution: 0.33°

The Velodyne sensors recommended for use with RESEPI are:

Velodyne Puck of 100 m range with compact form factor.

Velodyne Puck Lite of 100 m range with compact form factor. Designed for applications that demand a lower weight, the Puck LITE retains the Puck sensor’s surround view and performance.

Velodyne Ultra Puck of 200 m range with compact form factor.

Ouster sensors

The RESEPI® can be used with the long-range laser scanner sensors of Ouster.

The long-range, high-resolution 3D sensor of Ouster is the OS2, engineered for performance, and priced for commercial deployment.

Field of View: 360° horizontal and 22.5° vertical

Vertical resolution: 0.18º – 0.73º (multiple options)

The Ouster sensor model recommended for use with RESEPI is:

Ouster OS2-32 of 200+ m range

Livox sensors

The RESEPI® can be equipped with the laser scanner sensors of Livoxtech.

The Livox sensors are high quality mass produced LiDARs with a cost-effective approach.

Livox LiDAR features non-repetitive scanning patterns which the areas scanned inside the FOV grow the longer the integration time, increasing the likelihood of objects and other details within the FOV being detected.

The Livox sensors recommended for use with RESEPI are:

Livox Mid-40 has a sample rate of 100,000 points per second and a random angular accuracy of less than 0.05°. The circular FOV of the Mid-40 is 38.4°. Detection range is 200+ m.

Livox Horizon is a high-performance sensor with a random angular accuracy of less than 0.05°, featuring a FOV of 81.7° * 25.1° with a maximum range of 260 m.

Livox Avia combines compact and lightweight design with improved detection range and efficiency, featuring a FOV of 70.4° * 77.2° for non-repetitive scanning with a maximum range of 450 m.

Use cases for the RESEPI:

Remote Sensing with LiDAR

Sometimes called a 3D laser scanner, LiDAR is a surveying method that measures distance to a target by illuminating the target with pulsed laser light and measuring the reflected pulses with a sensor. It has terrestrial, airborne, and mobile applications. Some models of 3D LiDAR are able to generate up to 700,000 data points per second, There are plenty of exceptional producers on the market, for example Riegl and Quanergy®.

Scanning and mapping

Perhaps area mapping is still the biggest domain for remote sensing. Making sense of the physical world by analyzing maps and 3D models allows businesses to make faster and more informed decisions that increase efficiency, profit and more importantly, improve safety. Few of the most often used bases it can be done on are a land vehicle or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).

Precision agriculture with LiDAR

LiDAR technology is instrumental in developing 3D models of farmland, which can be used to aid crop planning and can produce accurate maps of the natural resources. In addition, it can be used in crop yield forecasting, field management, land segmentation, and determination of soil type.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Algorithm Development

RESEPI has the ability to generate a point cloud in real time. This feature, along with aiding imagery from other optical sources such as RGB and thermal cameras, can lay the foundation for SLAM algorithm development.

Utility inspection

Drones equipped with LiDAR and Photogrammetry technology are a much cheaper and safer option when compared to other aerial scanning methods or manual inspection. With innovative LiDAR and Photogrammetry algorithms, users can reconstruct utilities and identify potential hazards and damages.

Construction site monitoring

Drones equipped with RGB cameras and LiDAR technology enable construction companies to regularly monitor project progress. In addition, LiDAR point cloud color schemes are a useful tool for the visualization of elevation, which makes 3D analysis of the ground and structures much easier.
